Our dear friend and brother, Pastor Larry Attig (retired, Melbourne First), traded his early body for a heavenly one yesterday, with his family nearby. Our hearts go out to his wife, Becky Attig, and their entire family. The Attigs have three children: Denean is the wife of Pastor Nick Lennon (Jax Lighthouse); Keri is the wife of Pastor Matt Hastings (Estill Springs, TN); Jared is married to Lauren and lives in Franklin, TN. Larry began his pastorate in Melbourne in 1999. During that time, he served as the Mission Area Coordinator to the Space Coast churches, and was a member of the District Board of Ministry. He was a beloved friend and mentor to all. We will share funeral/memorial plans when we receive them.

Funeral arrangements for Dr. J.V. Morsch, retired district superintendent of the former Central Florida district are as follows: the family will receive friends on Thursday, May 30th, from 6-8 PM at Center Pointe Community Church of the Nazarene, 9580 Curry Ford Rd., Orlando. The funeral service will be Friday, May 31st at 10 AM at the church.
Dr. J.V. Morsch, retired district superintendent, traded his earthly body for a heavenly one last night, surrounded by family and loving caregivers. Dr. Morsch was the second district superintendent of the newly-formed Central Florida district, having been elected in 1975. He served in that position for 14 years. Prior to his election, he was the pastor of Nashville First Church of the Nazarene from August 1970 to May of 1975. J.V. was a graduate of Olivet Nazarene College (now University) in 1951, with a Bachelor in Science, then in 1952 with a Bachelor of Theology. He earned his Mastor of Arts degree from Luther Rice Seminary in 1977. He received a Doctor of Ministry from Luther Rice Seminary in 1979. Following his tenure as district superintendent, Dr. Morsch began working with his son, Dr. Gary Morsch, founder of Heart to Heart Ministries, and traveled worldwide with that ministry's relief efforts. In 1998, he was appointed Coordinator of Nazarene Compassionate Ministries for the Southeast USA Church of the Nazarene. Among other things, he was instrumental in providing relief efforts to those affected by the multiple hurricanes that hit Florida in 2004. Dr. Morsch and his wife, Nancy, have been faithful members of Center Pointe Community Church of the Nazarene in Orlando. He was an encourager and cheerleader to all he met. As family has said, "He leaves behind a legacy ... a desire to leave the world a better place."

Please join us in welcoming Rev. Dale Schaeffer (pictured, far right) as the new District Superintendent of the Florida District. Rev. Schaeffer was elected on the first ballot by the delegates of the Florida District Advance on Friday, May 3, 2019, following the retirement of Dr. Larry Dennis. Rev. Schaeffer is currently the pastor of the Medford New Life Church of the Nazarene in Medford, Oregon. He and his wife, Steph, have three daughters: Helena (married to Seth Peachey), Brenna (16), and Mia (14). Rev. Schaeffer's position with the Florida District will be effective June 3rd. Please pray for the Schaeffer family in these days of transition.

Hello from the 96th General Board Meeting in Lenexa, Kansas. I wanted you to be aware of two important historic events. 1) For the first time since 1980, the Board of General Superintendents will be commissioning 37 missionaries tonight! This number triples the average number of candidates. God is on the move! 2) In addition, for the first time, the service will be live-streamed. The stream will begin at approximately 8:15 EST. You can access the service on the Church of the Nazarene (official) Facebook page. I know it's late; however, if possible, please share this opportunity to participate in the Global Missions Commissioning Service with your FB friends and email list. Blessings! A Call to District-wide Prayer and Fasting To: All Florida District Church of the Nazarene Pastors, District & Local Leaders, members and friends of all Congregations - Greetings: Thank you and your congregations for joining the District Advisory Committee (DAC) in corporate Prayer and Fasting these past two months. The power of prayer is what will take us through this transition of our District Leadership these next several months and on into the future of our District's growth and success. God is our answer. On Thursday, February 28, the DAC will be meeting together to review all the names that have been submitted as possible candidates for the position of District Superintendent of the Florida District. It will be our task to choose 10 of these names to send to the Board of General Superintendents for their consideration. We covet your prayers. We have been asking you to join us in corporate prayer and fasting on the first of each month. However, the DAC will be meeting on February 28th, so the prayer committee would encourage you and your congregations to move that corporate prayer date to Wednesday, February 27. Please join us in prayer as we gather for such an important task. We, as I am sure you, are seeking God's person for this position and we do not want to get in the way. May God clear our hearts and minds and agendas to focus only on His choice for us. Pray for the Board of General Superintendents, as the next step will be in their hands to give us their recommendations. Also, pray for the one God has already chosen for us, that his or her heart will be made ready and willing to make this move to serve the Florida District. Please encourage your congregations to participate in our corporate prayer time together on Wednesday, February 27 and then again on the first of April, leading up to District Advance.
